How does gifting work on Kudoboard?
If you turn the gifting feature on for a board, you have the choice as to whether you alone contribute funds to the gift or you allow all of your board contributors to chip in. If you turn the gifting feature on for an eCard, only you as the creator can contribute funds to the gift.
Peer-to-peer gifting is typically used for special occasions, such as birthdays, new babies, or retirements. Think of it for any occasion that you would ask people to pitch in $5 when they sign a card for a group gift.
Is there a limit to how much can be contributed?
Yes. Depending on the currency designated on the board, the limit is $1000 USD, $1000 AUD, $1000 CAD, or €1000 EUR, respectively. $500 USD/AUD/CAD/EUR is the limit for an individual contributor.
Can employees choose between a gift card and a physical gift?
The board creator chooses whether the gift funds will be contributed to a delivered, physical gift (powered by Snappy), or a digital gift card (powered by Tremendous).
What currencies and countries are supported?
Gift cards and physical gifts can be sent in USD, CAD, AUD, GBP, and EUR. More on changing the currency of gift card contributions here: Can I Change the Currency of Gift Card Donations?

With gift cards, the gift funds will be converted to the recipient's local currency upon redemption.
Note: Contributors donating in currencies outside of the currency in use on the board will want to be mindful of currency conversion rates and any other fees that their specific card provider/bank might charge for currency conversion.
Can I turn gifting on or off on my Business, Pro, or Enterprise account?
Yes, account admins can choose to allow all gifting, no gifting, or only gift cards/only physical gifts.
How can I see what gifting is happening on my Business, Pro, or Enterprise account?
On Pro and Enterprise plans, your Analytics page (available in the Admin Panel) includes gifting analytics. These analytics are not available on Business plans.
Can I send gifts to multiple people at once?
Yes. With eCards only, you can send gifts to up to 200 recipients at the same time. Multi-gifting is not currently available for boards. Once you create an eCard with multiple recipients, you can choose the amount that each recipient will receive:
Can I set a gifting budget for individual managers (Business, Pro, and Enterprise)?
Not at this time in Kudoboard. If managers have access to company credit cards, then an internal process can be established for how and when managers can send gifts. Analytics can be monitored in the Admin Panel on Pro and Enterprise plans.
Are there any fees involved?
For gift cards, we collect a small processing fee on gift card contributions to cover the cost of payment processing, fraud risk, etc. This fee is paid by each individual when they contribute. The recipient receives the total amount collected on the board.
If a recipient chooses to redeem via PayPal or PayPal International, please note that there is a 6% processing fee that is taken from the total received. When the recipient redeems, they'll see that fee amount, as well as a page showing the total after the fee. All other redemption options are fee-free. Learn more.
For physical gifts, please see our Snappy gifting support article.
How do taxes work for Kudoboard gifts?
Kudoboard cannot give tax advice. Always consult your company's finance or legal department regarding tax decisions.
We provide reporting on gift cards and gifts sent for your company to use as needed. Gifting reports can be downloaded from the Analytics tab of your Admin Panel on Pro and Enterprise plans to be sent to your finance department to use for compliance with any applicable tax laws.
Although we can't give any tax advice, we can share a few examples of how some Kudoboard customers have approached the question.
- Some of our customers treat all gift cards as taxable income.
- Others treat gift cards as non-taxable as long as the total amount earned is below a certain amount (e.g., $200 per year).
- Physical gifts are typically not considered taxable income as long as IRS de minimis rules are met. Consult your finance team or legal counsel to determine what tax rules apply to your organization and gifting patterns.
